Obviously discontinued shingles
Decades ago many shingle manufacturers in order to save money made shingles with a cardboard base instead of fiberglass. These shingles predictably performed very poorly. If your shingles are rumply, rotting, or peeling off of your roof, chances are your shingles are organic. All organic shingles are thankfully discontinued.
If you have 3 tab shingles that measure a meter across instead of 36 inches, you have metric shingles. Except for a very few geographic regions around The Country they are totally unavailable and are therefore considered to be discontinued.
If your roof looks like the worlds most redundant puzzle you have T-lock shingles. These shingles were thought to hold up better under high wind conditions. Less obviously discontinued shingles
If you remember the old Betty Crocker Cookbooks from 20 years ago you will see where these roofs got their names from. A dark red, a light red, and white in a swirl pattern. These shingles are also often found in shades of green. Most of these shingles have been discontinued for decades.
If you've never seen another house with your shingles before, chances are you have specialty shingles. Most specialty shingles have a limited time in production and then they are discontinued.
A niche shingle manufactured over a decade ago, Though some people liked the cobblestone look of these shingles; they did not sell well enough to justify continued production. Since they are no longer produced, they are considered to be discontinued.
